Ripon Races

Ripon races is a popular venue for racing fans in North Yorkshire and beyond, who enjoy the lively atmosphere at the regular flat racing meetings that take place during the summer.

The track is known as Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse and is a right-handed oval of one mile and five furlongs. The Ripon Racecourse home straight is notable for having several bumpy sections which can unbalance a tired horse travelling at speed.

Ripon’s biggest race is the Great St. Wilfrid Stakes, a six-furlong handicap staged in August that always attracts a host of top sprinters.

Ripon Races Tips

The tight bends on the Ripon Racecourse and the uneven nature of the home straight make it difficult to win from off the pace. Horses who have broken fast and made all the running have a surprisingly good record in the Great St. Wilfrid Stakes, despite the highly competitive nature of the race.
Less surprising is the fact that the list of winning trainers is dominated by Yorkshire-based stables including Tim Easterby, Richard Fahey, David O’Meara and Mark Johnston.
But the Newmarket yards of William Haggas and James Tate have eye-catching records when venturing north.
Silvestre de Sousa has an excellent record in the saddle at Ripon races, while it’s also worth noting runners owned by Yorkshire firm Clipper Logistics, who have a superb strike rate.
