Galway Racecourse is a right-handed semi-circular horse racing venue at Ballybrit in County Galway. It is home to one of the Ireland’s biggest summer sporting events, the week-long Galway Festival.
An undulating course, the track has a sharp descent and then a short but uphill run-in over two furlongs. The final two fences in National Hunt steeplechases over jumps can be tricky.
There are also plenty of Galway races on the flat too. A circuit of the round course is a testing mile-and-a-quarter.
This track is all about big betting handicaps with the Galway Plate over fences and Galway Hurdle both holding Grade A status – the highest level in Ireland.

Galway races are currently being run behind closed doors because of the ongoing COVID-19 situation. This is set to be reviewed and updated in line with government advice, with Galway Racecourse keen to welcome back punters as soon as it is safe to do so.
It’s still worth checking Galway races fixtures because the decision to allow spectators in could change. If you book tickets to a Galway Racecourse event that is then moved to behind closed doors, refunds will be processed through the official course website.
