Horse racing is a longstanding tradition in the Somerset area. The first official race recorded in the vicinity of Bath City is dated back to 1728 and reportedly took place at Claverton Down, the location for most racing events in the area until about 1796. Allegedly it was not until 1811 that a race was hosted at the present location of Bath Racecourse, on Lansdown Hill. From the 1900s until today, there have been regular horse races at Bath Racecourse.
Bath Racecourse also offers a number of themed race days, celebrating a variety of fabulous occasions and international traditions on top of excellent racing entertainment. These days include an Octoberfest-themed race meeting, an Australian-style BBQ fixture, the Cider Festival race day, and the Bath Ales Beer Festival Evening event.
Note: A racecourse shuttle bus runs on race days from Dorchester Street Station for £3 each way.
Leave the M4 at Junction18 and follow the signage on the roads to Lansdown Hill.
