Bath Racecourse

Bath Racecourse is set on a hilltop outside the picturesque Somerset city that shares its name. It is Britain’s highest flat racecourse and, because it has no watering system, the ground can become very firm in a dry spell.

Its most notable listed races are the Lansdown Fillies’ Stakes, run in the spring, and the Beckford Stakes in autumn.

Bath is a sharp left-handed course that favours horses that lie up with the pace. Its exposed location means it can be windy, which adds to the difficulty of the stiff uphill finish.

Bath Racing Tips

Mark Johnston and Roger Charlton do not have many runners here but when these trainers send horses to Bath it is always worth studying their chances closely. The same goes for Newmarket handler David Simcock.
Among jockeys, Adam Kirby and Jim Crowley’s returns show that they handle the demands of this idiosyncratic racecourse particularly well.
It’s also worth taking note of the effect of the draw in races over a mile. They start in a chute and the course turns left most of the way, so horses drawn low can have a small advantage.
