Goodwood Racecourse has a rich history of exciting races and events, and the owners of the site are the Duke of Richmond’s family, whose seat is located near Goodwood House.
Apart from the Stewards’ Cup and King George Stakes, Goodwood is famous for hosting one of the biggest events on the British Flat racing calendar: the Glorious Goodwood meeting, which is held annually.
Goodwood is also one of the most prominent racecourses on television. From 1956 through until 2006, the BBC covered Goodwood events; however, in 2007, all rights were passed onto Channel 4 Racing.
The Goodwood racecourse hosts dozens of notable racing events each year, with the most famous being held throughout the months of July and August, Glorious Goodwood. With the Goodwood Cup and Stewards’ Cup extremely popular amongst local and international visitors, it is easy to see why so many other important events take place at Goodwood.

Goodwood Racecourse is just 60 miles from London, and can be reached via road or rail. If you plan on driving from the London A3: at Milford Roundabout, take A286 via Haslemere and Midhurst. Before Chichester on leaving Singleton village take left turn over Downs past Goodwood Racecourse then follow brown tourist board signs for Goodwood House (approx 4 miles).
If instead you are taking the train to Goodwood, there is a regular service from London Victoria to Chichester, which should only take 1 hour 40 minutes. Once at the station, there are buses and taxis available to take you to the racecourse.
Dining – There is a plethora of popular restaurants and bars available at any number of the boxes and stands. The Sussex Grandstand suites can entertain 32 party guests, while the Charlton boxes can seat up to 40. The Charlton Hunt restaurant provides elegant service and extensive views of the course as you dine, with the Double Trigger Club offering private balconies for drinks and entertainment.
Wedding/Events: Private hire of a number of unique Goodwood venues is available on most non-racedays. The Charlton Suite is licensed to perform civil ceremonies, while three stunning locations are all available for reception room hire. Conference and seminar facilities, seating up to 160 persons, are also offered.
Disabled Access: Goodwood racecourse has several facilities that accommodate disabled access. The House, tearoom, and shop are all accessible via wheelchair ramps, while all rooms that are open to the public are situated on the ground floor, with no staircases.
