Trotting and Pacing Racetracks
There are over thirty racecourses staging regular harness racing events registered with the British Harness Racing Club, as well as an ever changing number of independent smaller harness racing tracks. Only four of them -Amman Valley, York, Corbiewood and Tir Prince - offer racing on a hard track; all other courses conduct their Trotting and Pacing events on grass. The Trotting and Pacing season in the United Kingdom runs from April to October, making harness racing meetings the perfect outings during the summer months when the season is at its peak.
Although harness racing is not as widely followed as the traditional horse-and-jockey Flat and National Hunt races, the sport is developing a steadily growing audience. The racing with a cart (the sulky) may not be quite as speedy as the sprint Flats but the skill involved in keeping the stride of trot of pace is a great test of a horse's and driver's ability. With more and more venues incorporating harness raced into their fixtures, checking out the Trotting and Pacing is becoming increasingly convenient, promising a great future fan-base for an exciting facet of equine sport.
