Victor Chandler Chase

The Victor Chandler Chase is one of the youngest Steeple Chase events on the British Jump Racing scene. Originally, the race was supposed to premier in 1987; however, the weather would not permit the race to be run and the Victor Chandler Chase ended up making its first appearance in 1988. The race was sponsored by Victor Chandler from the get-go and is referred to it exclusively by the sponsorship name, although the Victor Chandler Chase is currently registered under the official title of the Clarence House Chase.

When it was first established, the Victor Chandler Chase was a handicap race over two miles - and it was relocated in 1994 (Warwick), 1997 and 1999 (Kempton Park), 2005 (Cheltenham) and 2006 (Sandown Park) due to renovations occurring at Ascot Racecourse. When it returned to its native racecourse in 2007 the distance of the race was extended to two miles and one furlong, as well as being promoted to the coveted Grade 1 status.

The Victor Chandler Chase is open for entry to horses aged five and older. It takes place every January at Ascot Racecourse.
