Scottish Grand National Festival

The Scottish Grand National Festival consists of two days of racing madness at Ayr Racecourse, structured around one of Scotland's wildest and most enthralling National Hunt fixtures, the Scottish Grand National. While this outstanding National Hunt Chase, modelled on the infamous Aintree Grand National, is undoubtedly the feature race of the Festival, there are many more attractions to these two race days than this particular race.

Day One of the Scottish Grand National Festival hosts seven high-profile jump races. The race card for the first day includes exciting features like the Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase run over 2 miles and 4 furlongs, a chase that attracts great contenders from across the United Kingdom. Another highlight of the day is the Coral Backing Poppyscotland Mares' Handicap Hurdle, testing the season's champion stayers with a gruelling distance of 3 miles.

The second day of the meeting, the Scottish Grand National Day, stages eight races - including the weekend's feature, the Scottish Grand National - which will be enough to get any racing fan excited. Featuring the Future Champion Novices' Chase as a showcase of new talent and the Albert Bartlett Handicap Steeple Chase, this day really covers the bases for National Hunt fanatics. After the races you are invited to celebrate your wins and the joys of equine sports at one of Ayr Racecourse's lovely apre-race facilities. Whether you feel like having a boogie to live music or prefer a quiet wind-down drink in the Marquee - your needs will be provided for at the Scottish Grand National Festival.
