Macau Guineas
The Macau Guineas is the newest addition to the world's youngest Triple Crown series, the Macau Triple Crown. The Macau Triple Crown series was established in 2008, but the inaugural series featured the Director's Cup as its first leg. In 2009 the Director's Cup was replaced by the Macau Guineas, mainly in the spirit of assimilating the names of the Macau Triple Crown fixtures to those of the original English Triple Crown series.
Macau's Taipa Racecourse hosts the Macau Guineas in mid-March. The race is conducted over a distance of 1,500 metres (0.93 miles) and awards a purse of HK$800,000, making it one of the most sought after victories of the season.
Since 2009, the races of the Macau Triple Crown - currently composed of the Macau Guineas, the Macau Derby and the Macau Gold Cup - are open to three and four year old thoroughbreds. It is the only Triple Crown series in the world to allow entry to horses over the age of three.
