Sussex Stakes
This race is held on the second day of the Glorious Goodwood meeting. It was first run in 1841, and it is a 1-mile right-handed flat race on turf for 3-year-olds and up. Interestingly, as of 2009, no horse has won the race more than once, though Sir Gordon Richards jockeyed horses to Sussex Stakes victory 8 times in his career.

Nassau Stakes
This race is held on the final day of the Glorious Goodwood meeting, and was first run in 1840. A right-handed flat race on turf over 1 mile 1 furlong 192 yards for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares, it has a purse of £200,000. Two horses tie as most successful, with two wins apiece. They are Roussalka, which won in 1975 and 1976, and Ruby Tiger, which won in 1991 and 1992. Sir Gordon Richards ties with Nat Flatman for most successful jockey in this race, with each man riding to victory in the Nassau Stakes 6 times.

2 Aug 2011: Frankel On Top Of The World After 2011 Sussex Stakes Win
There was nothing but praise for the spectacular Frankel when he extended his unbeaten run to eight by winning the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood last week.
Following the race, trainer Sir Henry Cecil declared Frankel as the best horse he had ever trained.
9 Aug 2011: Canford Cliffs Suffers Career-Ending Leg Injury
Champion galloper Canford Cliffs has been forced into retirement after sustaining a serious leg injury during his second-place finish to Frankel in the Glorious Goodwood.
Trainer Richard Hannon opted to send Canford Cliffs to stud after a leg scan revealed a shadow on the joint running into the pastern which could quite easily turn into a fracture or break.
