History of Leicester Racecourse

Racing in the Leicester are was predominantly conducted at Victoria Park Racecourse until 1882, the year when the Leicester racing industry moved all events to the course we can visit today. Since it was established Leicester Racecourse has played host to racing legends like Diminuendo, Silver Buck or Time Charter; and has constantly worked on improving itself.

The last decade Leicester Racecourse invested deeply into the development of a new Grandstand, the Club Room feature, and a general modernisation of the available facilities. The result is a state of the art racecourse with all the comforts and features you can think of.

As Leicester caters for both the Flat and the Jump races, its year is divided into two segments: the Jumping season from November to March, and the Flat season from April to October. Both seasons combined hold a total of 32 race days, 20 during Flat season and 12 dedicated to Jump racing.

  • Ladbrokes Racedays - are regular meetings a Leicester, during both the Flat and the Jump season. They host a number of competitive races between some of the finest Grade and Group 3 runners and jumpers.
  • Leicestershire Stakes - this flat race is possibly the most anticipated event of the Leicester Flat season. Run over a distance of 7 furlongs and 9 yards, and open to thoroughbreds aged four and older, this race is scheduled every year in late April. It is a Listed race.
  • John Smith's Gala Darts - This weekend meeting in July offers not only the excitement of races but also a dart championship for you to participate in. Why leave all the action to the horses?
