History of Hamilton Park Racecourse

Hamilton Park has conducted horse races since 1782, making it a long standing part of Scottish sporting history - and one of the most innovative racecourses in the country. Hamilton Park was the first racecourse to host an evening meeting on 18th July 1947, pioneering a new way of celebrating horse racing. However, once the evening race had become a staple part of all British racecourse offering, Hamilton Park again reinvented the possibilities of the track; this time by hosting a morning meeting - the first of its kind - on 8th May 1971.

Not content with the already massive mark it has left on the way we conduct equine sporting events, Hamilton Park continues to push the boundaries of traditional racing. Be it by mixing popular music with the sport of kings or opening a space for exhibitions on their site, Hamilton is the place to look for a fresh take on the great British horse racing tradition.

Notable Races at Hamilton Park Racecourse

  • The Braveheart Stakes
  • The Glasgow Stakes - a Listed Flat Race over a distance of 1 mile, 3 furlongs and 16 yards; open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and geldings. The event was formerly conducted at York, but moved to Hamilton Park in 2006, quickly becoming a season highlight.
  • Saints And Sinners - an evening meeting in mid-June and event raising money for charity, this fixture epitomises the spirit of Hamilton Park. Not only does it deliver the goods when it comes to racing, it also benefits the greater good.
