Fairyhouse Racecourse

Fairyhouse is one of Ireland's premier horse racing venues. Owned by Horse Racing Ireland (HRI), Fairyhouse is home to classic Irish races such as the Irish Grand National and the Irish Gold Cup. The Fairyhouse course is situated in County Meath, whose tourism board boasts that Fairyhouse is firmly established as one of the most modern facilities in the country, providing an outstanding level of comfort and service'. The Fairyhouse course is a right-handed track that is 1 mile 6.5 furlongs in diameter and features a 2.5 furlong straight which finishes slightly uphill.

History of Fairyhouse Racecourse

Fairyhouse first opened for racing in 1848. At this time the track was used for point to point racing by the Ward Union, who still use the track in the winter months for point to point racing. Since that time the track has become one of the foremost tracks in Ireland, playing host to number of memorable moments in horse racing history. The first Irish Grand National was run at the track in 1870, and since then the track has been graced by legends of horse racing such as Desert Orchid, Red Rum, l'Escargot and Bobbyjo.

In 1999 the track was given a major upgrade and two grand stands underwent major refurbishments.

Notable Races of Fairyhouse Racecourse

The main race at Fairyhouse each year is the Irish Grand National. First run in 1870, the Irish Grand National is one of the world's premier chase events, and such attracts a bumper crowd. Other Grade 1 events at Fairyhouse include the Irish Gold Cup and the Bar One Hattons Grace Hurdle. In addition to these Grade 1 classics Fairyhouse also plays host to the Grade 2 Easter Festival Novice Hurdle and the Grade 3 Brownstone Stakes.

How to Get to Fairyhouse Racecourse

Fairyhouse Racecourse is located a few miles from the city of Dublin. The Fairyhouse course can be reached via Exit 5 on the new M3 from both Dublin and Navan. Punters can also reach the track via a train from Dublin's Connolly Station. On race days there will be shuttle buses running from the M3 Parkway station.

Corporate/Conference - Fairyhouse has state of the art corporate conference facilities. Their range of bright, spacious rooms and acres of outdoor space allow patrons to book just about any event at Fairyhouse racecourse. In the past the track has played host to everything from weddings to trade fairs and even music festivals.
