Ayr Racecourse
Ayr Racecourse is a major Scottish racecourse for flat races and National Hunt events. It has a left-handed oval track 13 furlongs in circumference, with courses for both flat races and steeplechases. Each year it stages 27 race days, including the Gold Cup Festival and the Scottish Grand National Festival.

History of Ayr Racecourse
Established in 1907, Ayr Racecourse was made as a replacement for another nearby course at Racecourse Road. While it may currently hold the Scottish Grand National, it was not the original home of that important event. The Scottish Grand National was previously held at Bogside Racecourse, but the closure of that course moved the chase to Ayr, where it has been run since 1966 at its current distance of 4 miles and 110 yards, with 27 fences to be jumped.
Notable Races of Ayr Racecourse
The most important event at Ayr Racecourse is the Scottish Grand National chase. This often features competitors who have also entered the Aintree Grand National, and only rarely have the winners of one of these races managed to pick up a win in the other. In fact, only Red Rum was ever able to accomplish it in the same season, and it seems unlikely that it will ever be done again.

Ayr Racecourse can be reached via air, rail or road. Rail is particularly convenient.
- By road, travelers coming from Glasgow should head south onto the A77. Free parking is available.
- By rail, simply take a train to Ayr Station. The course is within walking distance of the station.
- By air, Prestwick Airport is only 3 miles away from the course, while Glasgow Airport is 30 miles away.

Food and Drink – Restaurants are located at the course, but bars and fast-food shops can be found nearby.
