Sprinter Sacre to Return at Kempton
Currently figuring as the highest rated jumps horse in training, Sprinter Sacre has been confirmed by trainer Nicky Henderson to make his long-awaited reappearance this season in the Grade 2 williamhill.com Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton on December 27th.
Fresh off the back of claiming the both the Horse of the Year and Outstanding Chaser awards at the ROA’s annual event two weeks ago, the classy seven-year-old was originally slated to reappear in the Tingle Creek at Sandown earlier this month, but was put on ice when it was discovered he was not 100%.
Further to the Desert Orchid, Sprinter Sacre, who is currently unbeaten in all ten starts over fences, was rumored to wait and eventually line up for the Sodexo Clarence House Chase, however with three full weeks between each event, Henderson is now seriously considering a run at both.
If this is indeed the case, it would certainly highlight Henderson’s plans to create a run towards a defence of the Champion Chase for his stable’s most talented runner; the event his claimed so memorably in 2013.
“Sprinter Sacre worked very well on Saturday and again this morning and the plan is to run at Kempton” Henderson told racingpost.com recently.
“He looks very well and it will be good to get him back on the racecourse. After Kempton, the plan will be to run three weeks later at Ascot.”
Currently sitting as clear favourite at Bet365 to defend his title at Cheltenham later in the season, Sprinter Sacre can be backed at 2-5 at time of publication.
