Geraghty to Partner At Fishers Cross Today

After it was confirmed on Monday that usual jockey Tony McCoy would travel to Newcastle to partner My Tent Or Yours in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, Barry Geraghty has claimed the ride on At Fishers Cross for the Bet365 Bet365 Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury today.

Seamless throughout his unbeaten campaign last season, the Rebecca Curtis-trained six-year-old’s victories in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival and Grade 1 Sefton at Aintree allowed him to step out of the pack as the major competitor for the [ladbrokes] World Hurdle to Big Buck’s.

Although missing the Bet365 Hurdle at Wetherby last month, At Fishers Cross has been partnered by McCoy in eight of his 10 starts to date, however the 18-time champion jockey has chosen to forgo the ride on this occasion, opening the door for Geraghty.

“He is a brilliant ride to pick up. I have ridden in races behind him and he looks the real deal” Geraghty said with excitement following his appointment.

Runner-up in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in March this year, My Tent Of Yours is seems in line to clash with fellow Stan James Champion Hurdle hopeful Melodic Rendezvous after both appeared amongst 12 forfeits for the Grade 1 classic.

Trainer of Melodic Rendezvous Jeremy Scott is confident his seven-year-old can compete with the best, despite a somewhat questionable run of form recently.

“He is 95 percent certain to go for the Fighting Fifth and Nick Scholfield will ride him” Scott said.

“The handicapper has kept him on 155 after Wincanton so that gives us a back-up plan to keep the Gerry Feilden option open.

“It looks like My Tent Or Yours is the one to beat, but we should be able to beat the others. He has done really well since Wincanton and fingers crossed he will run a decent race”.
