Shea Shea to Start King’s Stand Stakes Favourite

South African sprinter Shea Shea will start favourite for the 2013 King’s Stand Stakes that will be run on the opening day of the Royal Ascot meeting.

There are currently twenty-one horses set to take part in the Group 1sprint and Shea Shea tops the betting market at King’s Stand odds of 9/4.

The National Emblem gelding is coming off an impressive victory in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint and is on track to win his fourth Group 1 after past triumphs in the Golden Horse Casino Sprint and Computaform Sprint in South Africa.

The other horse adding an international flavor to the race is Australian sprinter Shamexpress who is coming off his maiden Group 1 victory in the Newmarket Handicap.

The O’Reilly colt is aiming to become the fifth Australian-trained horse in the last ten years to win the King’s Stand Stakes after the past success of Choisir (2003), Takeover Target (2006), Miss Andretti (2007) and Scenic Blast (2009).

Leading the charge for the locally trained hopefuls is Reckless Abandon who is one the second line of King’s Stand Stakes betting at odds of 6/1.

The Exchange Rate colt returned to the races with a third place finish in the Group 2 Temple Stakes after a dominant two-year-old season that saw him take out the Group 1 Prix Morny in France as well as the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Reckless Abandon’s conqueror in the Temple Stakes Kingsgate Native is also set to take part in the King’s Stand Stakes and could be the value runner at his current odds of 14/1.

The evergreen gelding has been in sensational form this campaign but hasn’t won a Group 1 race since his triumph in the 2008 Golden Jubilee Stakes.

Swiss Spirit will be backing up after his second place finish in the Temple Stakes as will Sole Power who finished two and a half lengths behind Shea Shea in both the Meydan Sprint and Al Quoz Sprint earlier this year.
