Midday in Foal To Frankel
Juddmonte Farms has announced that Group 1 winning mare Midday has been successfully scanned in foal to retired equine superstar Frankel.
Juddmonte General Manager Phillip Mitchell announced the news on the Juddmonte website yesterday.
“It is now six weeks since Midday was last covered, and we are happy that everything is progressing as it should,” Mitchell said.
“With 16 Group 1 wins between the sire and the dam, it is a mating that has attracted a great deal of interest, and we look forward to next year’s foal with great anticipation.”
Midday is the most high profile mare that has visited Frankel in his first year at stud.
The daughter of Oasis Dream, who like Frankel was trained by Sir Henry Cecil, was six-time Group 1 winner including a record breaking three straight victories in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.
The seven-year-old was also victorious in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, the 2010 Yorkshire Oaks and the 2010 Qatar Prix Vermeille.
Between them Frankel and Midday won twenty-three races (including sixteen Group 1s) and made £5,237,309 in career prizemoney.
Well over 100 hundreds mares will be visiting Frankel in his first season at stud including over sixty Group 1 winners or producers.
Included in Frankel’s book for the 2013 season are Epsom Oaks winner Dancing Rain, German superstars Danedream, Yorkshire Oaks winner Ramruma and Japanese mare Vodka.
The meeting most anticipated by racing fans – Black Caviar and Frankel – is still a chance to happen although the undefeated mare’s trainer Peter Moody has hinted that she might race on into next season.
“She’s been well looked after, well-managed, patiently guided by her owners,” Moody said.
“I think she’s going as good as ever.
“Maybe there is another season in her.”
