Sprinter Sacre Cruises to Queen Mother Champion Chase Victory

Sprinter Sacre has stamped himself as a once in a generation equine talent with a sensational win in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival.

Sprinter Sacre scored an effortless nineteen length victory despite a sensational effort from Sizing Europe who bravely tried to mix it with the equine superstar in the concluding stages of the race.

Jockey Barry Geraghty didn’t have to touch Sprinter Sacre who cantered to one of the most impressive victories in Cheltenham Festival history.

Geraghty was flowing with praise for the horse he believes is the best that he has ever ridden.

“He is a beautiful horse, a natural jumper and things would have to go horribly wrong for him to go wrong,” Geraghty said.

“I have ridden some brilliant horses over the years but it is the ease with which he does it that sets him apart.

“I think the ‘Frankel of jump racing’ is a fair way to describe him.”

Trainer Nicky Henderson has admitted in the past that he does not enjoy watching Sprinter Sacre race and today was no exception.

“That was probably the worst five minutes of my life, hopefully Barry had fun, but I’m glad it’s over,” Henderson said.

“Sprinter Sacre is scary. He has that aura about him and is totally and utterly unique.

“He does find it so ridiculously easy that you worry complacency could creep in.”

Henderson hinted that the season may not be over for Sprinter Sacre with the leading trainer saying he has one eye on the Punchestown Festival.

“He is a two-miler and there is a nice Grade 1 there so maybe he could have another run,” the leading trainer said.
