Our Conor Purchased By New Owner
Colorful owner Barry Connell said he was delighted to purchase 2014 Champion Hurdle favourite Our Conor after his incredible performance in the Triumph Hurdle during the 2013 Cheltenham Festival.
Our Conor produced one of the most impressive performances of the festival to demolish the Triumph Hurdle field with a fifteen length victory.
“I’m delighted,” Connell told The Racing Post.
“These types of horses come around once in a blue moon; it’s very hard to get them.”
Connell is well known for paying extravagant amounts for horses that tickle his fancy but refused to divulge how much he paid for the son of Jeremy.
“I’m not going to discuss the price,” Connell said.
“I was just delighted to have the opportunity to buy him because I was so impressed with what he did in the Triumph.”
Connell confirmed that Dessie Hughes will continue to train the exciting gelding.
Our Conor has now scored six wins from ten race starts, since making his debut in May last year, and is undefeated in four races over hurdles.
Our Conor finished ninth in his debut but claimed victories at Roscommon and Naas in his next two starts.
The four-year-old made his debut at Grade level in December, winning the Grade 3 Bar One Racing Juvenile Hurdle in impressive fashion.
He followed this up with victory in his Grade 1 debut in the Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown just a month before his Cheltenham Festival romp.
Despite his long campaign there is still the chance that Our Conor will be taken to the Punchestown Festival although Connell may elect to give him a much deserved spell.
Our Conor is currently equal favourite in the 2014 Champion Hurdle betting market with 2013 winner Hurricane Fly, with both horses available at odds of 11/2.
