Cue Card To Contest Ryanair Chase

Trainer Colin Tizzard announced on Wednesday that Cue Card will not tackle Sprinter Sacre in the Queen Mother Champion Chase and will instead contest the Ryanair Chase.

Cue Card was on the third line of the Queen Mother Champion Chase betting market at Bet365 Bet365 but is now the favourite for the Ryanair Chase, having been well backed since the announcement was made.

“We are going for the Ryanair Chase with Cue Card, although he will be left in the Champion Chase and if the favourite comes out we may consider going back to the two-miler,” Tizzard told the Racing Post.

“We would be foolish not to leave him in the Champion Chase in case something happened to Sprinter Sacre.”

Cue Card finished seven lengths behind Sprinter Sacre in the Grade 1 Arkle Challenge Trophy during the 2012 Cheltenham Festival and recent form suggests that he would have struggled to improve on this margin with Sprinter Sacre continuing to improve.

Cue Card won the Haldon Gold Cup Chase, in a twenty-six length romp, first-up this season but followed that performance up with a disappointing fifth place finish behind Long Run in the Grade 1 King George VI Chase.

The son of King’s Theatre bounced back from that lackluster effort to score by seven lengths in the Grade 1 Ascot Chase.

Cue Card remains in the Queen Mother Champion Chase betting market at Bet365 Bet365 and is currently priced at 8/1, behind Sprinter Sacre (1/20) and Sizing Europe (5/1).

The seven-year-old is on top of the Ryanair Chase betting market at odds of 3/1.

He is followed in the betting market by Irish jumper First Lieutenant (9/2), the ultra-consistent Sizing Europe (4/1) and Nicky Henderson-trained Riverside Theatre (6/1).
