Flemenstar Heading To Cheltenham Festival
Trainer Peter Casey confirmed yesterday that he is setting leading Irish jumper Flemenstar for the Cheltenham Festival but is yet to decide which event the eight-year-old gelding will run in.
“Flemenstar has been entered for the Gold Cup, the Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Ryanair Chase,” Casey said.
“The Hennessy will be his next race and no further plans will be made until after we see how he gets on at Leopardstown.”
Flemenstar was beaten favourite in the Grade 1 Lexus Chase over three metre fences at Leopardstown at the end of 2012 but Casey believes he has improved from that run and will be tough to beat in the Grade 3 Hennessy Gold Cup.
“We felt he deserved another chance over 3m and we’re in no hurry to make any Cheltenham decisions until after the Hennessy,” Casey said.
“He’s in super form and enjoying regular visits to the beach.”
Bookmakers are keeping Flemenstar very safe in the betting markets for both events.
The son of Flemensfirth is on the second line of betting in the Queen Mother Champion Chase betting market, at Bet365, at odds of 11/2 behind the short priced favourite Sprinter Sacre.
He is further down the Cheltenham Gold Cup betting market and is currently available at odds of 10/1.
Punters and racing experts have questioned whether Flemenstar has the stamina required to handle the three miles and two furlong trip of the Gold Cup.
Whatever race Flemenstar ends up entering you will be able to find the best odds at Bet365.
The betting markets for the Queen Mother Champion Chase and the Gold Cup are already available at the leading bookmaker so why not place an early bet for the Cheltenham Festival.
