Cecil Says Frankel Still Improving

Sir Henry Cecil believes that Frankel is “better than ever and still improving” as he prepares the equine superstar for tomorrows Champion Stakes at Ascot.

The veteran trainer was delighted after the Galileo colt completed his final track work gallop before what is expected to be his last ever race.

“I was very pleased with Frankel’s final piece of work. He gives the impression that he is better than ever and still improving,” Cecil said.

“I could not be happier with him. He seems full of himself and, considering the time of year, he is really good and healthy in his coat. He eats everything put in front of him.

“I am pretty confident he will be fine in soft ground, but if it’s heavy we are in no-man’s land. He has never encountered it and, with his action and turn of foot, I cannot be sure that he would appreciate it.”

Frankel is aiming to finish his career with a perfect record of fourteen wins from fourteen starts and as this chapter of the Frankel story closes Cecil, who is currently battling stomach cancer, revealed just how thankful he is to have been given the opportunity to train the horse that many consider to be the greatest of all time.

“I am so lucky to have been allocated Frankel to train,” Cecil said.

“He has been an inspiration and challenge, which I really needed so badly.

“Through my illness, I feel that the help from my wife Jane and the determination to be there for Frankel has helped me so much to get through the season.”

Frankel is currently priced at odds of 1/10 at Bet365 Bet365 ahead of Cirrus Des Aigles (4/1) and Nathaniel (10/1).
