Sweet Solera Stakes Betting Preview
Some of the top two-year-old fillies in Great Britain will contest the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket today.
The Sweet Solera Stakes was won, most famously, by Soviet Song who went on to win the Group 1 Fillies Mile at Ascot. Many of the fillies in this race will be looking to do the same this year.
After successful predicting Hawkeyethenoo would win the Stewards Cup last Saturday we will be looking to pick another winner in the Sweet Solera Stakes.

1. Amazonas
Amazonas started her racing career with an impressive victory in a Novice race at York, but since then has struggled to match it for pace with the classy horses. Her last two starts she has chased the leader’s home and weakened in the final furlong. She has the look of a horse that will improve with age but it is difficult to see her improving enough to win today.
2. Califante
Richard Hannon trained Califante has been in solid form since debuting but faces a significant leap in class today. Her win in a fillies maiden on the 23rd July was impressive as was her run behind The Gold Cheongsam last start. This race will give a very clear insight into just how good this filly is and because of the unknown factor punters must keep her safe.
3. Certify
This filly ran like a star to win her first race at Newmarket in July. Mickael Barzalona had her in the perfect position and she showed strong acceleration to cruise to victory at 10/1. She ran on well in that race and therefore should appreciate the extra distance today. Certify is certainly a contender.
4. Discernable
Discernable is the likely leader of the race. She has showed a great fighting spirit in her racing career thus far only on for victory, after leading the whole way, in two out of her three starts. If she can get an easy run at the front of the group she may prove very difficult to beat.
5. Dream Maker
Dream Maker is the most heavily raced runner in the field and is come off back to back wins. In six career starts she has never run out of a place. However, this is a rise in distance and class and she may struggle at this level. She will likely contest the lead with Discernable which could produce an interesting speed battle.
6. Fantacise
Fantacise made her Group debut in the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes where she finished behind Sendmylovetorose. The form lines coming out of that race are very strong with 2nd place Maureen winning the Group 2 Princess Margaret Juddmonte Stakes last Saturday. Fantacise lacked the pace of Sendmylovetorose and Maureen but may find this race more to her liking. She is definitely a contender.
7. Go Angellica
Go Angellica finished ahead off Amazonas last start in the Weatherby’s Vat Services Star Stakes but a long way off the winner Roz and Savanna La Mar (also in this race). Like Amazonas she shows potential but it’s hard to see her improving quickly enough to win this race.
8. Jillnextdoor
Jillnextdoor will be looking for her maiden victory in the Sweet Solera Stakes. She was not disgraced in Group 2 company last start but didn’t really look like a future group race winner either.
9. Momalorka
The daughter of Red Ransom was impressive when breaking her maiden at Goodwood in June. Since then she hasn’t really improved as much as many expected. She finished three lengths behind Califante last start and is unlikely to reverse that margin today.
10. Ollie Olga
The undefeated Ollie Olga makes her Group debut today. She has shown a withering finishing birth in both starts thus far. This is an obvious rise in class but, like many horses in this race, the unknown surrounding the filly makes her difficult to rule out.
11. Redressthebalance
Redressthebalance is another undefeated horse making her group race debut. She won easily at her last start with jockey James Doyle waiting until the final furlong to make his move. The ease of that victory made many look up and take notice. Redressthebalance is another contender in a race full of them.
12. Reyaadah
There isn’t much to say about Reyaadah. She was impressive on debut at a lower class and makes the step up to Group racing today. It is difficult to see her winning.
13. Savanna La Mar
Savanna La Mar will be trying to exact revenge on Discernable who beat her on debut. Savanna La Mar was unable to run down Discernable in that race and couldn’t run down Roz in the Weatherby’s Vat Services Star Stakes. This is a pattern you don’t like seeing a horse get into. Savanna La Mar has been heavily backed but there appears to be better chances in the race.
14. Sky Lantern
The Richard Hannon trained Sky Lantern has been flawless in his racing career thus far. He has won twice as a short-priced favorite and will be looking to make it three in a row. This is her first race in two months, with Hannon expecting her to come back even better than she was in June. Sky Lantern looks like the horse to beat.
15. Talqaa
Talqaa is the one horse in this field that looks as though she doesn’t belong. Came seventh on debut in a maiden at Goodwood and would have to improve a dozen lengths to mix it with the top fillies in this race.
The Sweet Solera Stakes will be a wonderful race with as many as 10 fillies that can be considered strong chances.
Our Tip:
