Saturday Racing at Ascot

The best racing this Saturday will be at Ascot Racecourse with a big day of racing highlighted by the Group 3 Princess Margaret Juddmonte Stakes. While the majority of England will be focusing on the Olympics we will be analyzing the day’s card and having a look at the contenders for the major races.

The Princess Margaret Juddmonte Stakes is the 4th race on the card scheduled to jump at 3.25 PM. The race is a group 3 for two-year-old fillies which always attracts a classy bunch of light raced horses. This year is no exception with five undefeated horses entering.

Richard Hannon has three runners in the race and possibly the two leading contenders in Maureen and Sky Lantern. Sky Lantern has been very impressive in his short career winning comfortably as favorite at her first two race starts. Maureen is perhaps the more fancied of the two having run second in the Cherry Hinton at Newmarket on the 13th July. Other contenders include Hoyam, Royal Rascal and the experienced Fantacise.

The 5th (The Royal Ascot Best Event For Groups Handicap) over 1 mile and 2 furlongs is likely to be a tricky one for the punters. With a 33 horse field whichever horse is victorious will require a great deal of luck.  Landaman trained by Mark Johnson is the form runner of the field having won its last two starts but faces a jump in class. Experience galloper Suits Me has been average of late but drops in class and is a definite chance if he can get back to his best.

The final race of the day is a sprint over 7 furlongs. This race features a number of consistent horses who, despite not winning, have performed well of late. My Kingdom has amazingly run second at its last five starts. The gelding has appeared to improve at each start and must be very close to a victory. Another consistent performer is Corporal Maddox trained by Patrick Morris. This very fit horse has run 4 times in the last month and chased the impressive Elusive Prince home gamely at its last start. It has been a long time between wins for Corporal Maddox so hopefully he can pull out a victory for his patient owners.

It should be a great day of racing at Ascot with good value available all day long.
