Black Caviar Prepares For 2012 Diamond Jubilee Stakes

Australian racing superstar Black Caviar is gearing up for her English racing campaign before boarding her flight next Wednesday.

The five-year-old mare is in the midst of her final few track gallops before her much anticipated overseas journey.

The Bel Esprit mare, who is the highest rated mare in the world, will be having her first English start in the Grade 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot Racecourse on June 23, 2012.

Australian trainer Peter Moody is hopeful the overseas campaign will prove successful.

However, the trainer is concerned that Black Caviar’s first overseas flight will not go quite to plan.

“I am confident she has learned to look after herself well and she will cope with the trip but you just never know,” Moody said.

“The travel does worry me.

“It is daunting.”

The trainer admits that Black Caviar might not race again after competing in England later this month.

“It is certainly exciting but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit tentative, bit nervous about it all,” he said.

“I would much rather be going around here in far more suitable races in our own environment … but sometimes I suppose we have got to take the cotton wool off and go and do these things.

“I suppose we run the risk that she could have run her last race in Australia if she goes over there and something goes pear-shaped or she doesn’t cope with it well or whatever.

“It could have been the last time we have seen her on a racetrack.

“That would be very disappointing and sad for me and probably Australian racing in general but let’s hope that is not the case.”

Despite the apprehension, Moody is confident the mare will tackle the challenge with candour and her trademark devastating speed.

“She is great form and going every bit as good as she ever has,” he said.
