Aussie Sprinter Readying For UK Assault
Australian trainer Peter Snowden has put the UK on notice ahead of his star colt Sepoy’s arrival later this year.
Snowden has overseen Sepoy’s tremendous success in Australia and will follow him to the Dubai world cup meeting before he’s handed over to Godolphin.
Sepoy was recently rated 123 by the WTR and was named the world champion three year old sprinter.
He runs in the Golden Shaheen in Dubai after a short Aussie lead in then it’s Europe he’ll try and conquer.
Snowden says Sepoy is at the forefront in a dominant period for Aussie racing.
“It’s great and I’m very proud of it,” Snowden said.
“It’s very, very pleasing to see for us and it’s great for Australian horses. Black Caviar, she was rated the best sprinter in the world so it says a lot for our racing.
“Mark Kavanagh’s filly (Atlantic Jewel) got a mention as well. That’s pretty good for three horses from Australia to get up in their category.
“It’s very pleasing for the breeding industry as well as the racing fraternity, because it just puts us up there on the map. But we’ve got more to do yet. We’re not finished yet.”
Sepoy has been working faultlessly ahead of his Oakleigh Plate start in Melbourne.
If he’s successful there it will be his fifth Group 1 win in only a short racing career so far.
“I’m very happy with him – he’s starting to do fast work so it won’t be long now,” Snowden said.
“He’ll probably trial in three or four weeks. Everything is ticking along well.”
While he’s still a world away there’s nothing to stop European punters getting on the Sepoy bandwagon right now.
