Snow Fairy Out Of 2011 Hong Kong Vase

In: Racing News | by ryan

No sooner did Snow Fairy arrive in Hong Kong then she was scratched from the Hong Kong Vase with injury striking down the UK champion.

Snow Fairy was undertaking a track gallop at Sha Tin when things went amiss forcing her out of what is going to be a fantastic race.

The mare was looking to become the first horse ever to win the Hong Kong Vase and the Hong Kong Cup.

Unfortunately though the four year olds season is over and the Ed Dunlop camp will have to be satisfied with her win in the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup in Japan earlier this month.

“It is with great disappointment that we report Snow Fairy suffered an injury this morning at Sha Tin racecourse whilst doing a routine canter,” he said.

“We have therefore withdrawn her from the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase and she will return to England when she is fit to travel.

“Although this is a major disappointment for us we are enormously proud of what she achieved in Japan earlier this month and we will advise everyone of her progress, as soon as she has returned home.”

As yet there are no plans to send her to stud and she will continue as a racehorse next year.

The Hong Kong meet has now been robbed of a bit of star power with Excelebration withdrawn from the Hong Kong Mile two days ago.

There’s still plenty of talent on hand though and the Hong Kong Vase especially is a race you need to have a look at.
