Leading the Cheltenham Gold Cup betting odds is Imperial Commander at 4/1 to win. Coming back from a break with a win in the Grade 1 Betfair Chase last start, Imperial Commander looks to be in good form to take the Gold Cup in style, as he did last year. It’s never a sure thing, though, as the Cheltenham Gold Cup has one of the toughest fields in jumps racing every year.
Next in the odds is Long Run at 9/2. A win in the King George VI Chase last start saw him dominate both Riverside Theatre and Kauto Star. With that said, his only losses have been at Cheltenham, where he has placed third twice before. If we were superstitious types, we’d think Cheltenham was cursed ground for Long Run, and we’d back him each-way or just to place.

Denman and Kauto Star are both in the Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase at 6/1 to win. Denman was runner up to Imperial Commander last year, while Kauto Star fell in that race despite being the favourite. From recent results, we think Kauto Star is in better shape to win this than Denman, but both are clearly past their legendary primes.
We reckon the first four will include some mix of Imperial Commander, Long Run, and Kauto Star. We don’t have too much faith in Denman right now. Midnight Chase, China Rock, and Tidal Bay all seem capable of contending for a spot in the first four, though we think Tidal Bay is the best chance.
