St Leger Stakes 2010 Odds & Favourites – Rewilding

The run of the Ladbrokes St Leger Stakes is fast approaching, the race will be hosted at Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday 11th September 2010. As the St Leger Stakes is the final leg of the English Triple Crown and the English Fillies’ Triple Crown the racing community has been paying close attention to the line-up of potential runners in this great event. So you can be just as informed as the local punters, we are bringing you the stats and history of the St Leger Favourites – starting today with the leading odds champion Rewilding.
Three-year-old bay colt Rewilding is currently drawing the shortest odds from most bookmakers, including race sponsor Ladbrokes who are pricing Rewilding at 13-8. Rewilding is currently training with Mahmood Al Zarooni, one of Godolphin’s finest thoroughbred trainers. However, Rewilding has not always been a Zarooni student.
Rewilding began his two-year-old season in 2009 schooling with Andre Fabre, who led the colt to two second places in his first two career races. Both races saw Rewilding under the direction of jockey Matt Guyon. Zarooni took over training duties from Fabre in late April 2010 and has entered Rewilding in three professional races since – recording two wins and one third place. Champion jockey Frankie Dettori has been riding Rewilding in every race since the change of trainer.
Rewilding’s biggest successes were his victories in the Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood on 19th May and the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York on 17th August 2010. The races went over 1 mile 3 furlongs and 1 mile 4 furlongs respectively, and the colt won by 4 lengths both times. While the St Leger Stakes are held over a slightly longer distance, 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards, connections are confident the longer distance will not be an issue for Rewilding.
