St Leger Festival 2010 – Day 1 Horse Races
Previews for St Leger Opening Day, the first day of the much anticipated St Leger Festival:
Race 1 – Arena Structures Nursery – 2.00pm – 7 furlong
This spectacular challenge for two-year-old colts and fillies is the first race of the St Leger Festival 2010 and it features some great runners. My Freedom, trained by Saeed Bin Suroor and ridden by Frankie Dettori, is currently the race favourite, followed closely by Bridle Belle from the stables of Richard Fahey. Both runners are thus far unbeaten, so we can look forward to a riveting showdown. View the Racecard for the Arena Structures Nursury »
Race 2 – AJ Webb& Son Fresh Produce Suppliers Conditions Stakes – 2.35pm – 6 furlong

Race 3 – Scarbrough Stakes – 3.10pm – 5 furlong
The distance may be short but a field of 13 experienced thoroughbred horses will make the Scarbrough Stakes one of the most exciting fixtures on the first St Leger Festival Day. The gang is headed by favourite Rose Blossom, a three-year-old filly trained by Richard Hannon; who will have to compete with the likes of Group Therapy, a hungry five-year-old Gelding from the stables of Jeremy Noseda. Race 4 – Fudge And Smudge Leger Legends Classified Stakes – 3.45pm – 1 mile
Race favourite Miami Gator, winner of the Ian Stapleton Claiming Stakes at Carlisle last month, is leading an impressive field of 19 thoroughbred runners in the central event of the first St Leger Festival day. His main opponent is Legal Legacy, a Dods-trained gelding who won the Adorn Hats Handicap at Thirsk on September 4th. These two runners both seem to have hit their prime, so keep an eye out for either of them. View the Racecard for the Fudge And Smudge Leger Legends Classified Stakes »
Race 5 – Wilson Field Neurocare Conditions Stakes – 4.20pm – 1 mile, 2 furlong, 60 yards
Last year’s St Leger Festival saw Henry Cecil’s Twice Over run to victory in this fixture; this year it seems like Wigmore Hall from the stables of Michael Bell may be the runner to look out for. The three-year-old gelding will be competing with Saeed Bin Suroor’s Al Zir and Cox-trained Black Spirit, both of whom are considered strong contenders in the Conditions Stakes. Race 6 – Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer Handicap – 4.50pm – 7 furlong
If you are looking for a cracking sprint race for three-year-old thoroughbreds – look no further. Champion horse Navajo Chief is currently leading the odds boards, prepared for a great run under jockey Ted Durcan. However, Navajo Chief is going to have to get past Colepeper and Kajima, just to name a few contender, before he can call himself a St Leger Festival winner.
