Matron Stakes 2010 Odds & Runners

The Coolmore Fusaichi Pegasus Matron Stakes is held this Saturday, 4th September 2010, at Leopardstown Racecourse. The event will see seven Class 1/ Group 1- worthy fillies fight is out over one clean mile for a combined prize pool of £200,000. The current favourite for the Matron Stakes is Music Show from the stables of Michael Channon. The three-year-old filly has started in ten professional races, recording five wins, one runner-up and one third place. While Music Show seemed to suffer a slight lack of motivation in May this year she has now bounced back to form. Her two most recent races saw music show scoring one win and one second place in the Falmouth Stakes and the French Prix D’Astarte respectively. Music Show will be running under Fred Berry for the first time this Saturday afternoon.

Lillie Langtry, trained by Aidan O’Brien and due to take to the track with jockey Johnny Murtagh, is another hot contender for this weekend’s Matron Stakes. The filly has been doing consistently great work – winning four of ten career starts as well as scoring two seconds and one third place – and would perhaps have been the favourite, if not for her slight downfall in her last professional race. After winning the Coronation Stakes in Ascot in June, Lillie Langtry did not quite have the stamina to hold on in the Falmouth Stakes, coming fifth. However, her connections are confident that Lillie Langtry is back on track and ready to take on Falmouth winner Music Show.

Another championed contender is five-year-old Spacious, training with James Fanshawe. This filly is by far the most experienced runner starting in the Matron Stakes. Over the past years Spacious has started in 15 career races, recording four wins, three runner-ups and four third place; proving herself as a stubborn contender with a lot of heart and nerve. Her past four races have seen Spacious slowly building up momentum, the earlier two resulting in third placings, the latter in runner-up positions. Connections are convinced that Spacious is ready for a victory and working with jockey Kieren Fallon might just help the filly achieve this goal.
