Irish St Leger – Odds and Runners

This Saturday will not only see our own St Leger Stakes take place at Doncaster Racecourse. The 11th September brings to our Irish cousin’s at Curragh Racecourse the Irish St Leger – last leg of the Irish Triple Crown, open to thoroughbreds aged three and over.

The Irish St Leger is considered the most gruelling of the Irish Triple Crown events, at a distance of 1 mile, 6 furlongs, and with a purse of €275,000. The Irish St Leger attracts horses from all over the globe, and this year is no exception; with the USA’s Dangerous Midge, Uniter Arab Emirate’s Eastern Aria, and Japanese Pop Rock joining the field of excellent Irish and British contenders.

The major recent changes have been around Dermot Weld’s horses – the big upset of course being the withdrawal of Rite of Passage, only last night, due to Weld’s disappointment in Rite of Passage’s recent performance. And so favourite with the bookmakers is Profound Beauty, who has brought trainer Weld many a win this season – taking out the Group 3 Ballyroan Stakes in August, and the Listed Challenge Stakes in July – winning both in 2010 and 2009 at Leopardstown Racecourse.

Ladbrokes have the latest antepost odds for this fantastic final race in the Irish Triple Crown, which we have listed below. All jockeys are yet to be confirmed.
