The Star Stakes feature quite a number of unbeaten two-year-old fillies. Admirable Spirit, Cochabamba, Fork Handles and Miss Boops – for all of whom the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Star Stakes is only the second race of their young careers – are yet to experience defeat on the professional track. Currently a lot of expectations are resting on Richard Hannon-trained juvenile Admirable Spirit, who will be taking to the track under champion jockey Richard Hughes. His victory in the Denford Stud E.B.F. Maiden Fillies’ Stakes by one length over Florestans Match put him on the radar as a potential victor; however, how well Admirable Spirit will cope with the longer distance of 6 furlongs and 8 yards remains to be seen.
Crying Lightning and Pennys Pearl are gearing up for their third starts as professional race horses; Lily Again from the Cole stables is facing her fourth run in the big league; and Michael Channon’s Singapore Lilly is despite her outsider status the most experienced runner of the field with four races under her belt. However, all fillies racing in the Star Stakes have only recorded one win each in their careers.
