Call To Arms – Weapon’s Amnesty Returns to Cheltenham
Last year Byrnes-trained Weapon’s Amnesty took no prisoners in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. This year seven-year-old is back to conquer the RSA Chase on the second day of the meeting.
Weapon’s Amnesty’s last victory took place at Newcastle, when the chestnut gelding and his regular jockey D. N. Russel raced first across the line in the Robins and Day Peugeot North East Novices’ Chase on 28th November last year. Since then the successful duo snatched two second places in the Knight Frank Novices’ Chase at Leopardstown in December, and the Dr P.J. Moriarty Novice Chase (also at Leopardstown) in February.
It was under Russel’s guidance that Weapon’s Amnesty ran to victory at last year’s Cheltenham Festival and, although it has not yet been officially announced, it stands to reason that the team will remain unchanged for this season’s Cheltenham.
