As Walsh Warms Up, Morning Supreme Shows Her Glory

Before tackling this week’s much anticipated meeting at Cheltenham, Ruby Walsh has booked yet another success on Morning Glory in the Dawn Omega Milk European Breeders Fund Mares Novice Hurdle Listed Race.
Giving his native Ireland the honour on Sunday the 14th Walsh thrilled crowds at Limerick when he rode a virtually flawless race on mare Morning Supreme. From the moment the pair burst onto the track there was very little doubt whether they would live up to Morning Supreme’s status as 1-2 favourite. Blazing Tempo raced to second place four and a half lengths after Morning Supreme, narrowly surpassing third placed For Bill.
Morning Supreme has not been defeated since April 2009 and defended her clean slate with grace and spirit at Limerick. The seven-year-old showed promise when she fought for fifth place in the Weatherby’s Champion Bumper at last year’s Cheltenham Festival. However, since the 2009 season Morning Supreme has truly come into her own and is sure to do trainer Willie Mullins proud for a great many races to come.
In spite of her win on Sunday, Mullins does not regret the decision to keep Morning Supreme out of Cheltenham this year. Instead, the mare will be competing at Fairyhouse and Punchestown in the near future, where she can further her skill until next season’s Cheltenham.
Jockey Walsh, who was commended for what has been described (positively) as a ‘motionless’ race, is hoping to continue his winning streak at this week’s Cheltenham Festival in as many of his twelve confirmed races as possible.
