Irish 1,000 Guineas
The Irish 1,000 Guineas is the equivalent of the English Classic Race, the 1,000 Guineas Stakes, and like its inspirational event the race is open only to three-year-old fillies. Taking place annually in May, at Curragh Racecourse, commonly referred to simply as 'The Curragh', the Irish 1,000 Guineas often feature fillies who ran in the 1,000 Guineas Stakes earlier in the season. Fillies to do well in the Irish 1,000 Guineas often move on to start in the Coronation Stakes in June.
Introduced in 1922 -one year after the Irish 2,000 Guineas, the equivalent race for three-year-old colts -, the Irish 1,000 Guineas is held over one clean mile and attract some of the finest female juvenile thoroughbreds of the season. On several occasions the Irish 1,000 Guineas were won by fillies already victorious in the 1,000 Guineas Stakes on English soil. The latest example for such an impressive double win was Finsceal Beo, who rocked the tracks in 2007. With horses of this calibre entering the race and a purse of €400,000, it is no surprise that the Irish 1,000 Guineas is now one of the most popular fixtures on the Irish racing schedule.
Legends of the track include four outstanding jockeys - Michael Kinane, Walter Swinburn, Christy Roche and Ron Hutchinson - all of whom rode three winners at the Irish 1,000 Guineas throughout their careers. The most successful trainer to compete at the Irish 1,000 Guineas is currently Paddy Prendergast who, between 1950 and 1978, trained five winners of the event.

23 May 2013: Just The Judge Irish 1000 Guineas Favourite
Trainer Charlie Hill confirmed that Just the Judge will take her place in the Irish 1000 Guineas after impressing in trackwork on Wednesday.
Just the Judge finished second behind Sky Lantern in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas and is now the clear favourite in the Irish 1000 Guineas betting market at
Bet365.
The Lawman-filly was undefeated in three race starts before the 1000 Guineas and looked the winner of the Newmarket classic before she was run down by Sky Lantern in the final fifty yards of the race.
Dermot Weld-trained Big Break, who is making her first appearances at the races this year, is on the second line of betting at Irish 1000 Guineas odds of 5/1.
Big Break finished her 2012 campaign with an impressive victory in the JRA Killavullan Stakes and avoided the QIPCO 1000 Guineas to concentrate on this race.
One of the best backed runners has been Viztoria who resumed with a comfortable victory in the Group 3 Canford Cliffs European Breeders Fund Athasi Stakes at Curragh.
The daughter of Oratorio won her first two race starts by a combined fifteen lengths including a seven and a half length romp over Snow Queen in the Blenheim Stakes.
Snow Queen joins Viztoria on the fourth line of Irish 1000 Guineas betting after finishing a commendable fifth in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas.
The inconsistent Aidan O’Brien-trained filly is yet to win this campaign and seems under the odds at her current odds.
Snow Queen’s stablemate Moth has been well backed but is not certain to take her place in the race.
The Galileo filly ran on well to finish third in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas but O’Brien is considering bypassing this race to save her for the Epsom Oaks next weekend.
Even if Moth doesn’t start in the race O’Brien will still have a strong hand with Hanky Panky (25/1) and Just Pretending (10/1) confirmed starters.
