July 2011

Three days of racing excellence beckon from the green meadows of Newmarket Racecourse. The July Festival is all about Newmarket's July Course, one of its two famous racetracks. The July Course is Newmarket's summer racecourse - the Rowley Mile is used for spring and autumn races - and it is known for its infamous one mile straight, the so-called Bunbury Mile.

The July Cup

The July Cup is the feature race of the July Festival at Newmarket. It is conducted on the July Course, however it is not run over the entire length of the course. The July Cup is a sprint race held over six furlongs, which has been testing the Grade 1 sprinting thoroughbreds since 1876.

Falmouth Stakes

The Falmouth Stakes are hosted at Newmarket Racecourse - or, more specifically, on the July Course. The race is open to thoroughbred fillies and mare aged three years or older, who compete for Group 1 glory and a purse of £200,000.

Newmarket Racecourse

Possibly the most famous racecourse in the UK, the Newmarket Racecourse consists of the Rowley Mile Course and the July Course, both flat tracks. As the heart of British horseracing, Newmarket Racecourse holds races in Spring, Autumn and Summer. It is located in Suffolk, England, and 9 Group 1 races are held there each year.
