York Ebor Festival Ladies' Day

The third and most flamboyant day of the festival holds two feature races, the Lowther Stakes and the Yorkshire Oaks. The Lowther Stakes is a 6 furlong sprint Group 2 event, open to - appropriate for the Ladies' Day - two-year-old thoroughbred fillies. This race dates back to 1946 and counts Niche and Infamous Angel amongst its many famous winners. The Yorkshire Oaks also conforms to the Ladies theme of the day, as a 1 mile 4 furlong race for thoroughbred fillies and mares. Established in 1849 it has seen the victories of legendary racing girls such as Alexandrova and Islington.

This race is for fillies and mares, 3-years-old and up. It is a left-handed race on turf over 1 mile 4 furlongs. Established in 1849, the most successful horses in this race were Only Royale and Islington.
