Hawkeyethenoo has been backed into favouritism for the Ayr Gold Cup that will be run at Ayr Racecourse this Saturday.

The 2012 Stewards Cup winner will be the first Scottish-trained winner of the race in thirty-seven years if he is successful on Saturday.

The six-year-old gelding is currently priced at 11/ in the Ayr Gold Cup betting market at Bet365.

Last year’s winner Our Jonathan has also been well backed in the market.

The son of Invincible Spirit has won just one race since his triumph last year but punters still believe he has is a good chance to become the first horse to win the Ayr Gold Cup back-to-back since Athel in 1896 and 1897.

Joining Our Jonathan at 12/1 is Face The Problem and Maarek.

Face The Problem has been ultra-consistent in his current campaign, winning the Keith Bownes Handicap and finishing second in his three subsequent starts.

Five-year-old Maarek defeated returning superstar Starspangledbanner in the Group 3 Newbridge 200 Renaissance Stakes last Saturday and appears well placed for the 2012 Ayr Gold Cup.

Imperial Guest, who ran second behind Hawkeyethenoo in the Stewards Cup, is on the seventh line of the Ayr Gold Cup betting market at Bet365.

The George Margarson-trained gelding ran on well to finish second in the London Southend Airport Handicap and is another horse who could be involved in the finish.

Lightly raced four-year-old Dubawi Sound will run for the first time since his third place finish behind Gordon Lord Byron in the City of York Stakes and joins Imperial Guest of the seventh line of betting and is priced at 14/1.

2009 Ayr Cup winner Jimmy Styles is nominated for another crack at the title and is currently priced at the generous odds of 25/1 at Bet365.

The eight-year-old is in winning form having won the Group 3 Prix De Meautry Lucien Barriere at his last start in France.
