Ayr Gold Cup Festival

Mid-September may not seem like the most extraordinary time of the year for everyone; however, for the horse racing fan it holds one of the year's most exciting events: The Ayr Gold Cup Festival. Spanning three days of racing and entertainment, the Gold Cup Festival at Ayr Racecourse is a mandatory fixture on every true aficionado's season calendar. Including three of Ayr's most popular races - the Gold Cup, the Silver Cup and the Bronze Cup - the festival will not leave you disappointed.

Ayr Gold Cup Festival Program

Day One: September 2011
Opening Day

The first day of the festival invites you to enjoy not only the gorgeous setting but also some serious horse racing to warm up the crowds for things to come. The stand-out event on Opening Day is the williamhill.com/bonus25 Handicap (formerly known as the Knight Frank Handicap) for the Kilkerran Cup. Live music and children's entertainment round off the day to make it an all-round success.

Day Two: September 2011
Gold Cup Ladies' Day

As it is tradition on the Ladies' Days of most festivals, a large portion of the action on the second day of the Ayr Gold Cup Festival is focussed on the fashions of the day. Including best-dressed competitions and plenty of beauty to admire all around (on and off the track) the day will truly provide a feast for the eye. The main racing event of the day is the Harry Roseberry Stakes, one of the most valuable Listed races of the Ayr season.

Day Three: September 2011
Gold Cup Day

The last day hosts the grand finale in form of a racing-excellence-triple-whammy: the Bronze, Silver and Gold Cup. As the maximum number of starters in the Ayr Gold Cup is set at 27 runners, the 27 highest handicap ranked horses applying for entry compete in the Gold status race; the next 27 fight for Silver, another 27 go for Bronze. This arrangement has pacified a lot of owners and trainers - plus it has given the spectators not one but three amazing races.
