Horse Racing FIRST4 or SUPERFECTA Bets
In this bet, as you may have guessed from its name, you pick the first four horses across the line in specific order. This is known as First4 in Australia, the term Superfecta is used in North America.
A First4/Superfecta bet works just like a Trifecta bet. If you have nominated all four horses and their places correctly, you win.
For example: On your betting card you have placed Tankgirl as first, Rubberchicken as second, CheckMeOut as third and KindaFast as fourth. If all your four predictions are correct, you have a winning First4/Superfecta.
As soon as one horse is out of place, i.e. you have accurately picked first, second and third but not the fourth horse, you loose. For example: You have placed the same bet as above. Tankgirl, Rubberchicken and CheckMeOut are coming in as first, second and third respectively; KindaFast however, comes in sixth. Although you may have a winning Trifecta, you have a loosing First4/Superfecta and get nothing.
Again, the difficulty of this type of bet makes for a high pay-off.
First4/Superfecta Box Bets:
To maximise your chances of winning, just like with a Trifecta bet, you can also place a First4/Superfecta box bet. In a box bet the exact order of your four horses does not matter, as long as they are the first four over the line. This is also called a 'four-horse-box'.
Within a four-horse-box are 24 possible combinations; meaning that the base betting stake, which may vary from venue to venue, will be 24 times the amount of a regular bet. Although this technically means that you have more to loose in a First4/Superfecta box bet than in a regular First4/Superfecta bet, the heightened chances of winning even out the stakes.
